Peak Foliage in NJ for 2021

*Average New Jersey acme fall color is Oct 19 through 29*

While at that place are average times for color modify, it really depends on several variables similar temperature and rainfall.

Trees at higher elevations turn color earlier ones at lower elevations. Leaves change outset along water so caput to areas with lakes, ponds, or rivers.

Leaves usually change colour starting from Maine and higher elevations of New England and then work their mode south.

New Jersey fall foliage more often than not starts in the northwest corner at High Signal and in the Highlands region in north central, progresses to the central role of the country, and finally to the southward and the coastal regions.

This means that leaves could be past height in Northward Jersey but withal barely changed in Southward Jersey.

Utilize the info here to get in as much color as you tin can, it doesn't concluding long!

11/nineteen/21… Concluding Report

This weekend and into next week Colour is still hanging on in areas merely the trees are quickly losing their leaves, and it's getting harder to suggest hikes with a practiced amount of color.

All-time color chance is on the eastern side of the state, through Monmouth and Body of water counties, along the coast, and then round the southern tip up to Cumberland County (use our Hike Finder as a map).

Farther out…New York: Long Islandand NYC are at superlative. Hudson Highlands/Deport Mountain/Harriman is past but all the same has some colour. Delaware, EasternMaryland, and Eastern Virginia ranges from nearly to meridian color.

11/xv/21…

Currently Expect to find pops of color mixed with trees that are totally without leaves. Rain and wind on Friday/Sabbatum didn't aid things but colorful leaves are notwithstanding lingering. Color is lingering longer than usual – take advantage this week if you lot tin can (Thursday might be in the 60s).

The best chance for the most color is still to look to the eastern side of the state – from the southern Palisades along the Hudson River in the northeastern corner, down through Middlesex into Monmouth and Ocean counties, along the coast, then round the southern tip up to Cumberland County (utilize our Hike Finder equally a map).

xi/12/21…

This weekend and into next week There is still more color out at that place than normal in this unusual leafage season – we tin't recall a fourth dimension when the color lasted this long in so many places. Only today'due south rain and wind will knock some of that pretty colour onto the footing (and make waterfalls flow!).

For the best adventure at grabbing some color, look to the eastern side of the state – from the Palisades forth the Hudson River in the very northeastern corner downwardly, through Middlesex into Monmouth and Ocean counties, forth the declension, and then round the southern tip up to Cumberland County (use our Hike Finder as a map).

The balance of New Jersey is probably technically "past peak" – but this doesn't mean totally bare copse or faded color, just that information technology'south no longer at its very best.

The northernmost part of the state yet has color too, but more than leaves accept dropped. But realistically you can hit virtually anywhere in the state and get color however.

This weekend and into next week…  More than color change is spreading across the state with the near establish in the n westward and north central function of the state. The leaves need chilly nights to show their colors, and recent warm temperatures are slowing the change a bit. Await to the edges of lakes or swampy areas for the about color.

Best bets for fall color in New Jersey would be the northwest to north key part of the country:Loftier Point South.P., Stokes S.F., Kittatinny Valley S.P., Wawayanda S.P, Terrace Pond, Ramapo Mountains, Pyramid Mountain.

A fleck of a road trip is required to see full peak fall color right now:

Equally usual this early on in the flavour, the largest amount of color change will exist found across the northwestern portion of the land, generally Sussex Canton into Passaic. While New Jersey is a ways away from "meridian" there is plenty of fall colour to enjoy right at present and then all the way into early November.

Potential higher colour spots to explore this week: High Point S.P. , Stokes S.F., Kittatinny Valley, Wawayanda Southward.P.

10/2/21 – Great Valley Runway Trail Loop, Paulinskill Valley, Sussex Branch – Sussex Canton:

10/1/21…

This weekend and into next week… The season is getting underway. Expect low color appearing across the country, a blush of yellowish on many leaves and some muted tones, with pops of color here and there but however a lot of light-green.

Best bets for early autumn color in New Bailiwick of jersey would exist the northwest to north part of the land such Loftier Bespeak S.P. (Sawmill and the park route, and swampy areas), Stokes S.F., Kittatinny Valley [peradventure Wawayanda S.P.- there'south a race being held October two-3; may want to avoid].

Fifty-fifty Farther out… NorthernMaine is seeing high color at fifty-lxx% while south remains low. Northern parts of Vermont and New Hampshire take more than color than southern areas.

9/28/21…

The season is just starting. At that place are yellowish tones appearing on green leaves and reds on early on turning maples beyond New Jersey – but nearly of the trees in the state remain greenish.

Overall outlook for NJ Foliage 2021: Color change timing looks to be on average right now, with NJ seeing peak color from October 19 to 29th.

Trees are heading into Fall not stressed from drought similar in 2020 (which leads to early on leaf drib), but northern and cardinal NJ received and so much actress rain that it could lead to slightly muted colors in those areas.
